Bristol City’s Famara Diedhiou served six-match ban for spitting
The Senegal international was found guilty of spitting at a Birmingham player during a Championship match in April.
Bristol City striker Famara Diedhiou has been suspended for six matches after being found guilty of spitting at an opponent. The incident occurred in the 52nd minute of Bristol’s 3-1 Championship win against Birmingham City on April 10. The 25-year-old Senegal international denies the allegations, however, following a hearing on Tuesday, he was found guilty by an FA panel. The suspension will come into effect at the start of the 2018/19 season.
Bristol City "extremely disappointed"
Through a statement released on Bristol’s official website, the club said it was ‘extremely disappointed’ with the FA’s decision. "The club is extremely disappointed with the decision of the Regulatory Commission and continues to give its full support to Diédhiou, who vehemently denies the allegation. Bristol City has requested the full written reasons from The FA and upon receipt will consult with the club’s legal team as to the options for appealing the decision of the Regulatory Commission."
Diedhiou’s ban is exactly the same as that given to Leeds striker Samu Saiz after he was sent off for spiting against a Newport County player in the FA Cup in January.
The Senegalese is Bristol City’s record signing, costing £5.3m when he joined for Ligue 1 side Angers in the summer of 2017.
He scored 14 goals in 36 matches in all competitions for the Robins.
