England's Harry Kane is the world's most expensive player, according to data released by the CIES Football Observatory. The Tottenham striker is now worth 201.2 million euros, surpassing Neymar and Kylian Mbappé to be the only player valued above the 200 million euro mark.

The CIES data is calculated using an algorithm which factors in several criteria, one of which is performance. While Neymar has just returned after from an injury that he picked up in February, Bale finished the season strongly, scoring three goals in Tottenham's last two games of the Premier League season. The CIES data is also influenced by the strength and level of the league that each player competes in; and Neymar's value (now at 197.5 million euros) has continued to fall since he joined PSG in France's Ligue 1 last summer for a fee of 247 million euros.

In third place is Neymar's PSG teammate, Kylian Mbappé, who joined the club on loan from Monaco last season. The Frenchman is worth 185.6 million euros, which is more than the 180 million PSG will have to pay Monaco to complete his permanent move to Paris. Lionel Messi is in fourth place, who, at 30 years old, is valued at 184.2 million Euros. Liverpool's Mohamad Salah comes in at fifth with a value 171.3 million.

Cristian Ronaldo in 24th place

Aside from Messi, the only other from LaLiga to appear in the Top 10 is Atlético's Antoine Griezmann, who is worth 164.5 million according to CIES, which only takes into account the five biggest European Leagues: Spain, England, France, Italy and Germany.

Cristian Ronaldo is way down the list at 24th. Real Madrid talisman's market value has been set at 103.4 million euros, whose algorithm has also factored in his age. At 33, he is the oldest player in the CIES ranking of 100 players. Despite losing 8 percent of his value in the past year, Cristiano was revalued upwards during the final stages of the season, up from the 78.6 million euros his price had fallen to in February.
