World Cup 2018 'most followed' footballer XI
The 2018 World Cup will be the most influenced by social media yet and, based on Twitter followers, four Spanish players make the starting line-up.
Every four years we see the global interest in World Cup stars rocket and so, for a bit of fun, we thought we'd pull together a starting XI based on each player's Twitter followers.
Spanish social interest
Four players from La Roja make it into the eleven, and this gives a strong backline to the team. David de Gea in goal with Sergio Ramos and Gerard Piqué in the heart of the defence will prove a tough nut to crack. Add to that the creativity of Andrés Iniesta and we're off to a good start.
After Spanish representation comes Brazil and France with two players and then one each from Egypt, Argentina and Portugal (no prizes for guessing who the single selections are).
