Valencia turn down Sporting Lisbon's offer for Nani
The Portuguese midfielder is surplus to requirements at Mestalla but the Liga club are not willing to let him leave on a free, with Fenerbahçe interested.
Valencia have rejected an offer from Sporting Lisbon to take Nani off their hands despite the Portuguese winger not featuring in Marcelino’s plans for the 2018-19 season.
Nani spent last season on loan at Lazio after a promising first season at Mestalla in which he scored five times and assisted eight in 25 Liga appearances. However, Marcelino has made it clear that he is surplus to requirements as the Valencia boss finalizes his squad for a Champions League campaign and has given Nani permission not to attend training with his teammates, who returned to work on Monday, while he seeks a new club.
Valencia keen to offload Nani, but not on a free
Sporting appeared to be in pole position with an offer to take their former prodigy back to the José Alvalade on a free transfer but Valencia are determined to recoup some of the 7.65m they paid to sign him from Fenerbahçe in 2016.
Nani is under contract at Mestalla until June 2019 and is currently valued at around five million euros.
It remains to be seen if Sporting, who are going through an institutional crisis, will return with a cash bid but Fenerbahçe are also said to be interested in a deal to take the winger back to the Turkish Super Lïg.
