Brighton and Hove Albion have confirmed the signing of South African striker Percy Tau from Mamelodi Sundowns for an undisclosed fee. The 24-year-old is the Seagulls’ seventh signing of the transfer window, following recent arrivals: Jason Steele, David Button, Bernardo, Leon Balogun, Yves Bissouma and striker Florin Andone who joined from Deportivo de la Coruña.

Tau to go out on loan

The South African, who agreed a four-year deal with the Seagulls, is set to be loaned out ahead of the upcoming season so for him to gain experience and acclimatise to European football.

"He is a player we have highlighted for the future and there is no doubting his talent," Brighton manager Chris Hughton said. "Percy will go out on loan this season, play regularly and get some experience of European football."

Talking to Brighton’s official website, Tau said that going on loan will help him develop as a player in Europe. "Going out on loan is always good to help a player develop and get better. It's new for me to be in Europe, and I'll get to work on myself and a few things that I need to improve. I'm hoping to get a better understanding of the game from playing there. It's a different approach to what we're used to in South Africa. It's exciting football."

Last season, Tau was named the Premier Soccer League’s Player of the year. With the Sundowns, he won the 2016 Caf Champions League.
