Song: Former Barcelona and Cameroon midfielder joins Sion
The 30-year-old free agent has signed a two-year deal with the Swiss Super League side.
Former Barcelona, Arsenal and Cameroon midfielder Alex Song has sealed a move to Swiss Super League side FC Sion in a two-year deal on a free transfer, the club announced on Tuesday.
Song, the nephew of Cameroon's most-capped player Rigobert Song, had been a free agent since leaving Russian side Rubin Kazan at the end of January.
Sion are captained by former Fulham and Nottingham Forest midfielder Pajtim Kasami.
After four games in the Swiss Super League, Song's new team are currently fifth with two victories and two defeats.
Song's career
The 30-year-old midfielder began his senior career at French Ligue 1 side Bastia in 2004.
He moved to Arsenal on loan in 2005 before signing permanently the following season, making over 200 appearances for the Gunners.
In 2012, Song signed a five-year deal with Barcelona for a reported 17 million euros. He spent two unproductive years with the Culés before being loaned to West Ham for two seasons.
His contract with Barcelona was terminated a year early, allowing him to secure a permanent move to Rubin Kazan in 2016.
However, after making just 22 league appearances for the Russian side, Song left in January when Fifa intervened to terminate his contract because Kazan were falling behind on paying the players' wages.
According to a report by the Telegraph, Kazan still owe Song 7.9m pounds.
At international level, Song was first capped by Cameroon in 2005. He was named in the Indomitable Lions' squad for the 2010 and 2014 Fifa World Cups.
At the World Cup in Brazil, the midfielder was sent off in the team's second match for violent conduct after striking Croatian forward Mario Mandzukic. Cameroon lost the game 4-0 and were knocked out of the tournament.
In January 2015, after being excluded from Cameroon's squad for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, Song announced his retirement from international football.
