Courtois:
Wasn't absolutely to blame for any of Sevilla's goals, but could have done more to avoid two of them. There was little he could do about the opener, but in the lead-up to the second he parried the ball into the middle of the box, and he was too static on the third. Made a great save just before the hour mark to prevent the hosts from going 4-0 up.
Nacho:
Wasn't as assured in defence as on other occasions, and offered little going forward. In the second half, Julen Lopetegui sought to add greater penetration out wide and replaced him with Lucas Vázquez after an hour.
Varane:
Didn't make any major errors, but didn't solve a whole load of problems, either. He was slow off the mark in several challenges, and looked far from assured.
Ramos:
Unrecognisable. The spaces that Marcelo left in defence didn't help, but he really didn't bring much to his team in Seville. He offered flimsy resistance on each of the home side's goals, and didn't contributed too much when joining in the attack in desperate search of a goal.
Marcelo:
A night to forget. His poor ball to Casemiro led to Sevilla's first goal, while his attitude was unacceptable in the build-up to the second: after jogging back, he arrived too late to cover the area in which the ball fell to André Silva. For the third, he jumped without conviction on the edge of the box and the ball dropped to Wissam Ben Yedder to finish in acres of space.
Casemiro:
Found himself overrun by the great football that Sevilla's midfield played. There was little he could do to counteract the Andalusians' powerful attacking play.
Kroos:
It's hard to recall many poorer performances by the German in the Real Madrid shirt. He failed to get stuck in defensively and was off target with deliveries that he tends to routinely send onto a six pence.
Modric:
After a first half that didn't go his way at all, he was among the Real players who showed the most determination to turn the evening around after the break, and saw a goal ruled out for offside after a VAR review.
Bale:
It wasn't his best night, either, but he was also among those who showed the greatest grit and desire. He fired a shot against the post in the first half, before being denied by Tomas Vaclik in a one-on-one with the keeper in the second.
Asensio:
Anonymous in the first 45, like the rest of the side. He improved after half time, supplying the assist for Modric when the Croat saw a goal disallowed, and providing the pass to put Bale through on Vaclik.
Benzema:
A very poor display. He failed to cause the Sevilla defence problems, didn't participate in Real Madrid's build-up play and was unable to get himself into shooting positions. Clumsy, slow and sloppy, he didn't get near the form he showed in the season's opening games, and was taken off for Mariano Díaz.
Substitutes:
Vázquez, Mariano and Dani Ceballos came on to try to change the course of the evening. All showing plenty of desire but, ultimately, their side were too far behind when they were introduced.
