Atlético de Madrid-Brujas 3-2 (15-03-1978)

Atleti did everything they could to turn the tie around at the Calderón with 65,000 supporters behind them for the return leg on 15 March 1978. Domingo Benegas and Marcial put the hosts 2-0 in front but the atmosphere cooled when Julien Cools pulled one back for the Belgians ahead (appeals for offside were turned down). Marcial made it 3-1 which meant Atleti only needed one goal but it was all over when Raoul Lambert grabbed a second for the visitors on 68 minutes. Brugge knocked Juventus out at the semi-final stage but lost the final to Liverpool at Wembley.
