Florentino calls Conte to gauge interest for Real Madrid job

Corriere dello Sport say Antonio Conte, who was approached in the summer too, has been contacted by Real Madrid about taking over from Julen Lopetegui.

Florentino calls Conte to gauge interest for Real Madrid job

Julen Lopetegui's potentially wobbly future has a lot of top managers who might be interested in the Real Madrid job on edge. Real Madrid being Real Madrid, there are a number of coaches who know they could be called in to fill a void at the Bernabéu at any moment. Lopetegui is playing for his future over the next couple of weeks with a particular focus on the Clásico at the Camp Nou.

Florentino Pérez has already had a chat to the manager and the next few weeks are set to be crucial for the club and the man on the bench.

Corriere dello Sport report that Pérez has already contacted Antonio Conte about stepping in and to weigh up his willingness to take charge. The call allegedly happened on Monday and was positive, with Conte seemingly interested in the role.

Not the first time Real Madrid have contacted Conte

The former Chelsea coach is not without suitors though with Manchester United also reportedly interested in his services should they decide to pull the plug on the Jose Mourinho era at Old Trafford.

The call from Pérez, however, would not be the first time Real Madrid have contacted the Italian. They approached him last summer when Zidane left. He wanted to wait to be fired by Chelsea, however, to ensure he picked up his compensation of nine million euros from the London club.

Now though, without a club and with a potential vacancy about to pop up, Pérez has been in contact again.
