LaLiga’s eSports team makes China debut

LaLiga made its debut at the China eSports Football League (CEFL) in Chongqing, the Spanish league announced on Tuesday.

The event was attended by over 3,000 people and in terms of global audience it is expected to surpass the 800 million views registered last year.

The three players chosen to represent Spain – JRALion, Los Yoruguas92, and Ranerista - contested a two-legged knockout tie on FIFA Online 4 against the three best players in China, who ended up running out 1-0 winners on aggregate.

LaLiga aiming to cement its position as an eSports leader

According to Daniel Vicente, LaLiga’s responsible of apps and mobile games, the aim of the organization is to boost the presence of Spanish teams in the eSports world and to cement its position as a leader in this field.

“The presence of LaLiga in this event represents a great step forward for LaLiga eSports project,” Vicente said.

“In Spain, there is a growing demand, from clubs and fans, to organize and grow this sector and LaLiga wants to lead that growth.”

Currently, Spain has two competitions dedicated to test its players: the Fifa McDonald’s Virtual LaLiga eSports, and the Adrenalyn XL tournament.

For the moment, many Spanish football teams have opted to have an alignment that represents them on eSports events, such as Villareal, Espanyol, Sevilla, Lugo and Cádiz.

'Our main target is to improve and continue to develop in Spain through EA Sports, although we won't lose sight of collaborative opportunities that crop up outside our borders and that can get the LaLiga brand into countries leading the way in the eSports world, such as China,' Vicente added.
