Besiktas would release Guti if Real Madrid came calling
"We haven't heard anything but if we receive a request from Real Madrid, we'll be happy to help. If he returns to Madrid, we'd be very proud", Besiktas' president said.
During today's press conference, Beşiktaş president Fikret Orman was asked about the situation concerning Guti. Guti is currently acting as assistant to first team coach Şenol Güneş until the end of the season but he has also been linked as one of the main candidates to take over from Julen Lopetegui if Florentino Pérez decides to sack the Basque coach during the next few weeks. Orman confirmed that he has not received any phonecalls from Madrid but added that he would not stand in the way if Guti was given the opportunity to return to Real Madrid: "No one has contacted us about Guti so far. We haven't heard anything about it, but if we receive a request from Real Madrid, we'll be only too happy to help".
Guti knows how the club works
Beşiktaş' president continued: "If Guti returns to Madrid, it would make us feel very proud. He deserves that job, we were keen for him to take the coaching post here last summer". Guti has a number of factors in his favour if the Madrid job becomes available - he was born and bred in the capital, a former player who came through the youth ranks and well loved by the fans. He also knows the day-to-day running at the club, how it functions as well as personally knowing many members of the current squad which means he would have direct connection with the dressing room. For now though, Lopetegui is Real Madrid's coach and he will be in the dug-out at Camp Nou for Sunday's Clásico, a game which could decide his future.
