Spain: Luis Enrique likes to trick players into breaking rules

Spanish Federation chief Luis Rubiales has spoken of a particularly crafty tactic to root out players who fall foul of his no-mobiles-at-meals rule.

Luis Enrique has introduced a number of rules in the Spain camp since taking over as La Roja's head coach in July - and, according to Spanish Football Federation president Luis Rubiales, has developed some fairly underhand ways of rooting out players who don't abide by them.

In an interview with the newspaper Sport on Wednesday, Rubiales revealed that the former Barcelona boss particularly likes to fool his footballers into falling foul of his ban on using - or even carrying - mobile phones at squad meals.

"He'll say, 'Hey, what's the temperature?'"

"Luis [...] has put in place a set of rules which he's very strict about, and if someone breaks them they have to face the consequences," he explained. "We've laughed a lot about the no-mobiles-at-mealtimes thing. The only one who is allowed is me.

"And it's funny, because he sometimes tricks his players by asking questions to see if anyone will take their mobile phone out. For example, he'll say, 'Hey, what's the temperature?' and if someone takes out their phone he'll chuckle: 'That's a fine.'"
