Juan Mata: Valencia, Chelsea, United, Spain

Without ever playing for the Real Madrid first team, a young Juan Mata moved to Valencia in 2007 where he spent three seasons, growing in stature each year, winning the Copa del Rey along the way. From there he stepped into the English Premier League joining Fernando Torres at Chelsea. An FA Cup, Europa League and Champions League were all won during his time there.

Starting around just half of the Blues' games in season 2013/14 under Jose Mourinho, Mata decided to move north, with Manchester United keen to take him from their rivals. There, alongside fellow Spaniard David de Gea, he has had a mixed time of things, at times dazzling with his creative skills, and at others accused of playing a less influencial role for his side. In a relatively difficult period for the club - following so much previous success under Alex Ferguson - his honours at Old Trafford included an FA Cup, a league cup, and the Europa League as part of his reuniting with Mourinho.

For his national team Mata has worked his way through the age groups, winning the European Championships at both under-19 and under-21 levels. Then, in 2010, he was a member of the side that collected Spain's first ever World Cup and that was followed up with the Euro 2012 title.
