The kit pays homage to the 1959 European Cup final when the French side faced a Real Madrid side featuring legends such as Di Stefano, Gento and Kopa in the German city of Stuttgart.
Real Madrid ran out 2-0 winners on the night but the game cemented a unique relationship between both clubs.

The French club stated that the launch of the kit inspired by the colours of the Santiago Bernabeu side and in the launch claim that they: "dedicate its third kit to its biggest rival and eternal friend, Real Madrid'.
