BARCELONA-REAL MADRID

Suarez makes history netting first ever VAR El Clásico penalty

The Uruguayan striker was on target from the spot after Real Madrid defender clipped the Barcelona player in the box.

Real Madrid French defender Rafael Varane clipped Barça striker Luis Suarez just before the half hour mark at Camp Nou during today's El Clasico. Initially match official Sanchez Martinez waved play on before the VAR delegation called the Murcia based referee to look at the decision again.

The referee consulted the video screen and after monitoring the incident from a number of angles, deemed the Uruguay striker was impeded and awarded a spot kick for the Catalan side.

Despite the best efforts of Real Madrid keeper Courtois, the well placed spot kick from Suarez was masterfully tucked into the right hand side of the Madrid net to give Barcelona 2-0 lead in the first El Clasico of the 2018/19 LaLiga campaign.
