Antonio Conte's ongoing legal battle with Chelsea still hasn't been resolved. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the coach is seeking 23 million euros in compensation, which corresponds to 13 million for being sacked before completing his contract and a further  5 to 10 million for damages to reputation.

The Italian newspaper report that Chelsea called two meetings in a bid to reach a point of reconciliation but Conte decided not to attend in person so the details of the severance package offered by Roman Abramovich are not known.

Chelsea on the market

As things stand, according to La Gazzetta, Conte maintains the upper hand in negotiations. Roman Abramovich, doesn't want any unnecessary expenditure as he is in the process of trying to sell Chelsea due to the increasing political tensions between Great Britain and Russia.

Chelsea have based much of their argument around the conflict the Italian coach had with Diego Costa which led to the player being sold back to Atlético de Madrid. The English club also accuse Conte of provoking Costa's departure in an operation in which they say they lost money on but the coach's legal team have pointed out that Chelsea actually made a profit in the deal (according to Transfermarkt, they bought Costa for 38 million and sold him for 66 million). They add that Chelsea didn't punish the player when he went public to complain that Conte had frozen him out and his services were no longer required.

Arriving late and parting in the wrong place

Chelsea's lawyers claim that Conte beached the fine print of his contract with the them many times - that he was regularly late for press conferences and sponsoship commitments with the club partners, adding that he even didn't park his car in the place assigned to him at the training ground in Cobham.

Conte linked to Man United job

The case continues and probably won't be resolved until 2019 and in the meantime, the coach is preparing his return. In Italy, they claim that after failing to reach an agreement with Real Madrid, his plan is to hang fire and wait until the Manchester United post becomes available, one which is currently occupied by José Mourinho.
