Daniel Correa: three arrested over São Paulo player's death
Brazilian police have detained three teenagers in connection with the murder of the 24-year-old midfielder after a party in Curitiba.
Police investigating the brutal murder of São Paulo midfielder Daniel Correa have made three more arrests in connection with the case, it has been reported.
Brazilian media outlet Globoesporte reported that three men being sought as part of the probe have been detained after arrest warrants were issued on Wednesday. It is believed that the three, who were identified by police as having arrived at the family home of prime suspect Edison Brittes Júnior shortly before the 24-year-old’s body was discovered on October 27.
Eduardo Henrique da Silva, 19, was captured in Foz do Iguaçu, in the state of Paraná, on Wednesday while the other two suspects, Ygor King, 19, and David Willian da Silva 18, turned themselves in a day later. All three are suspected of having participated in the killing of Correa, who was found partly decapitated and with his genitals removed after attending a party to celebrate the 18th birthday of Brittes’ daughter, Allana.

Brittes, who has apparently confessed to killing Correa, claims he did so because the player was attempting to rape his wife in one of the bedrooms of the property in Sao José dos Pinhais after the party, which took place at a nightclub in Curitiba, when several revelers returned to the house. Correa's final social media posts showed him in bed with Cristiana, who was apparently asleep. Correa added the words "I'm going to devour the birthday girl's mother" to the accompanying pictures.
Police are investigating Brittes’ version of events and have also placed his wife, Cristiana, and daughter in custody for ongoing questioning.
The lead investigator, police commissioner Amadeu Trevisan, said that the three more recent detainees were being sought because it was evident that Brittes “did not act alone.”
Also on Thursday forensic tests on Correa’s body revealed a blood-alcohol level of 1.34 grams per litre, which is three times the permitted limit in Spain to drive a vehicle.
Brittes stated that Correa was “very drunk. He was crazy, absolutely hammered. He could hardly stand up” at the gathering and that Correa had gone outside of his own volition and was not seen again afterwards.
