Antonio Conte has apparently confirmed that he turned down the Real Madrid job while attending the Panchina d’Oro awards ceremony that recognises the best managers of the season in Serie A, the 2017-18 prize being awarded to Massimiliano Allegri with Maurizio Sarri and Filippo Inzhagi runners-up.

Speaking to reporters, the former Chelsea manager said: “Due to the kind of coach I am, I preferred and still prefer to wait until June to find a new job. But then you never know; maybe in two or three months the desire to coach will return again and I’ll make a lie of what I just said.”

Asked about Sergio Ramos’ declarations when it is proposed Conte would be installed at the Bernabéu“respect is won, not imposed,” the Madrid captain said – Conte replied: “Coaches should bring good manners and respect when they arrive in a new dressing room. That is fundamental, because if you don’t have that, the problems begin.”

Conte was then asked where he envisages coaching when he does make his return, and replied: “Where do I see myself? Well, right now I’m at home [laughs]. I’m studying, watching games and the work of my colleagues. Come back to Italy? You never know. I’m Italian so I’m happy here, but I wouldn’t rule out carrying on abroad.
