LaLiga collecting six times less than Sky for television rights in bars

Every weekend, 100 inspectors travel to specific areas of Spain to comb the bars where football is broadcast. They are not doing it to try the Spanish omelette or drink the beer. They are dispatched to ensure the establishments are paying the corresponding fee to LaLiga for commercial use.

This is the new crusade that Javier Tebas has launched. He explained on Monday in Barcelona that "half of the bars in Spain where football is broadcast are pirates and that hurts Spanish football economically."

To put it into context, Sky collect €600 million euro annually for transmission of the Premier League while LaLiga collect just €100 million for the same idea.

Tebas explains that there is more people in Great Britain with a culture to pay for television but LaLiga are losing out when it comes to this. The league's president says the only explanation is pirate bars and says this is why he has installed the inspectors.

The fraud in question is when bars pay the same price as a private individual. The package to show it in a restaurant is much higher, between €200 and €250 per month.
