LALIGA
Defensive injuries stacking up for LaLiga's big three
Barcelona, Atlético and Real Madrid are suffering massively from injuries in their defense with multiple players missing a lot of time to start LaLiga.
Barcelona, Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid are all suffering from bad luck with injuries in their back lines. They haven't been great in attack either, which can be seen in the league table. Sevilla, Alavés and Espanyol are all in the top six wih only four points separating everyone.
They have suffered 44 missed appearances in 12 games and the likes of Nacho and Diego Godín will remain out until after the international break. Marcelo, Carvajal, Varane, Lucas, Savic and Giménez will also race against the clock to return before the end of the international break. Atlético and Barcelona play each other at the Wanda Metropolitano soon and Simeone is expected to be missing at least two of his four central defenders for the game.
Real Madrid's injury woes continue
Real Madrid have suffered most through injury, however and Sergio Ramos is the only one to play all 1080 minutes in the campaign to date. Odriozola has not missed any action in the league due to injury but has been left out on seven occasions for technical reasons. Carvajal has missed seven games too but his absences have been caused by injury. Vallejo has missed six games due to injury although he has been left out even when he was fit and still hasn't debuted in the competition so far this season.
Marcelo has been absent for four games in the league against Atlético and Alavés and he also mised the recent games against Valladolid and Celta Vigo. Varane suffered an injury against Barcelona and Nacho and Reguilón are also out injured now with the versatile Nacho set to miss a couple of months and will miss the Club World Cup while the left-back, Reguilón, is going to be out for at least four weeks.
Atlético and Barcelona are no better
Atlético, on the other hand, are missing Godín, Giménez, Lucas and Savic. The captain scored the winning goal against Athletic Club while he was visibly limping around the field. He should miss between three and four weeks with that injury. Giménez and Lucas were injured against Dortmund during the week and will likely be out for between two and three weeks respectively. Savic is a more extreme case and has missed six league games. Arias broke a rib with Colombia and Juanfran didn't play against Celta with only Filipe Luis not suffering injury so far.
Finally, Semedo, Pique, Lenglet, Umtiti and Jordi Alba are the only ones not to miss time for Barcelona. They have lost Sergi Roberto, Umtiti and Vermaelen with injuries of varying severity with Umtiti sitting out for almost two months with a knee injury. Vermaelen has missed the last four games with a thigh injury.
These injuries could be key to understanding their poor starts to the league. Barça have let in 18 goals in 12 games, 14 more than at the same point last season. Real Madrid have conceded 16 and Atlético eight.
