Alba defends Ramos over anti-doping irregularities
Jordi Alba has defended Spain team-mate Sergio Ramos over the alleged irregularities in his anti-doping tests.
Barcelona midfielder Jordi Alba was the first player to come out in support of Sergio Ramos following the Football Leaks revelations about alleged irregularities in two anti-doping tests taken by the Real Madrid captain.
Rivals on the pitch but united by a close off-field friendship, Alba jumped to the defence of Ramos after Barcelona’s game against Atlético Madrid on Saturday.
"There are few professionals like him. He lives for Madrid and for the national team,” said Alba. "I think he’s right and what has been said is not true. It doesn’t concern me, but I don't like talking nonsense.”
Alba on contract renewal
With his contract expiring in June 2020, Alba was also asked about renewal talks with Barcelona. Barcelona daily Sport had reported the club had already contacted his agent to set a date for a meeting to discuss the Spanish international's contract. However, Alba contradicted those reports, saying that he didn't know anything about the contact between his agent and the club.
"I don't have any news,” he said. “I'm calm, because I'm doing things well; I don't know what the club thinks. It's strange because I do not have a lot of time on my contract left. My intention is to finish my career here."
