Bayern Munich: Xabi Alonso touted as future manager

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has suggested that former midfielder Xabi Alonso could one day coach the Bavarian giants.

Alonso moved to the Allianz Arena from Real Madrid in 2014 after winning the Champions League at the Bernabéu. Previously he played for Liverpool, where he also tasted European success in 2004-05, and Real Sociedad.

The 37-year-old is currently studying for his coaching qualifications as coach of Real Madrid's under-14s and would be a popular addition to the Bayern staff after spending three seasons in Bavaria, where he won three Bundesliga titles.

“I hope that one day he returns to Bayern Munich,” Rummenigge said in an interview with Kicker magazine. “Xabi radiates a natural authority, he had fantastic coaches and he speaks several languages. He is an extraordinary person. He was a general on the pitch and all the players followed him. The ball was drawn to him and he distributed it as if by magic. He could slow the play down or speed it up. Xabi thought quickly and played quickly.”
