Hibs fan arrested for alleged racial abuse at Edinburgh derby
Television coverage showed the supporter aiming racist comments at Hearts’ Clevid Dikamona.
A Hibernian fan has been arrested this Saturday over the alleged racial abuse of Hearts’ Clevid Dikamona during the Edinburgh derby.
Television pictures from the 1-0 Hearts win showed the 65-year-old Hibs supporter apparently shouting racist slurs at the Congo international.
In a statement, Hibernian condemned the incident as “unacceptable” and said they would do “everything possible to identify the individual concerned and take the appropriate action”.
Superintendent Jim Royan of Police Scotland said: 'A 65-year-old man has now been arrested following the racial abuse of a Hearts player, and enquiries are currently ongoing into this.
'There is no place in Scotland for hate crime and I want to reassure the public that reports of such incidents will be treated seriously.'
According to the BBC, a total of seven arrests were made at the match, including two people for attacks on police officers.
Dikamona responds
The French-born Congo international posted a picture of the story by Record Sports Online and said he was feeling “happy and grateful” despite the incident.
He tweeted: 'You can’t know how happy and grateful I am tonight, despite what he could do or say he will not take away that feeling, I prefer to smile and tell you that I love you #SayNoToRascism'.
