Real Madrid put on alert as Eriksen contract talks stall
The Danish midfielder has yet to reply to Tottenham's first offer and Pochettino has voiced his concern that a deal has not be reached to renew the player's contract.
London-based clubs are having problems getting their star players to renew their contracts amid the threat of more appetizing offers from Europe's top sides. There has been no advances in Eden Hazard's talks to renew with Chelsea and at Tottenham, it's the same situation with Christian Eriksen. Like Hazard, Eriksen will be out of contract in 2020 and while Spurs have made the first move to strike a new agreement, The Evening Standard report that the Danish midfielder has yet to respond. Real Madrid and Barcelona are following the case with interest.
Salary would be doubled
According to those reports, a revised contract would see Eriksen double his current salary to match that taken home by Dele Alli - 150,000 euros per week.
Coach worried
Mauricio Pochettino meanwhile has expressed concern that no headway has been made. "As the saying goes, 'no news is good news' but in this case, I really don't know", the coach said following his side's 0-3 win over Cardiff on Tuesday, in which Eriksen was on the score sheet.
Several British newspapers have reported that Real Madrid have an interest in Eriksen although for his age (26), he wouldn't fit in with the club's strategy of bringing in promising young players. The Spurs midfielder is seen as Modric's natural replacement. Modric is now 33 and under contract until June 2020; like Eriksen, he is taking his time over agreeing new terms...
