Emiliano Sala: Mbappé donates €30,000 to search fund
The National Union of Professional Football Players called on Ligue 1 stars to aid the fund for the missing striker. Rabiot, Payet and Ocampos also donated.
The search for missing footballer Emiliano Sala is set to continue after the Argentinean’s family set up a crowd fund page to seek donations to hire a private company after Guernsey Police halted their operation last Thursday, and the 28-year-old’s colleagues have played their part after an appeal by the French National Union of Professional Football Players (UNFP).
While thousands of members of the public pledged to donate to the fund, the UNFP called on Ligue 1 stars to follow suit and received an overwhelming response. PSG forward Kylian Mbappé led the way with a €30,000 donation and his teammate Adrien Rabiot put up €25,000 towards the fund, which reached its initial target of €300,000 earlier on Sunday.
Ligue 1 stars answer appeal for Sala search
Other players to answer the UNFP’s appeal were Isaac Mbenza, Lucas Ocampos, Dimitri Payet and Laurent Koscielny.
The official search for Sala was called off last Thursday with the authorities in Guernsey describing the chances of finding the player and his pilot, Dave Ibbotson, as “extremely remote.”
Several leading football figures, including Leo Messi and Diego Maradona, have joined the campaign for the search to be resumed and donations continue to pour in to enable Sala’s family to fund a private company to comb the area around the Channel Islands where the player and pilot disappeared last Monday.
