There was good news for Real Madrid on Monday after it was determined that Sergio Ramos did not suffer an injury of major significance in Los Blancos' 4-2 LaLiga win over Espanyol.

Madrid skipper substituted at half time against Espanyol

It was feared Ramos had picked up a heavy knee sprain when he was taken off at half time on Sunday after a challenge by Sergio García, but tests have revealed nothing major.

Ramos will sit out the Copa del Rey quarter-final return at Girona on Thursday - which Madrid go into with a 4-2 first-leg lead - but will face Alavés in LaLiga on Sunday.

Ramos needed against Alavés despite ban threat

With defensive partner Raphael Varane suspended for the Basques' visit to the Bernabéu, Madrid have little option but to play Ramos in their final LaLiga fixture before taking on Atlético in the Madrid derby, despite the Spaniard himself being one booking from a ban.

Ramos played no part in Madrid's first training session of the week on Monday, which Keylor Navas (groin) and Jesús Vallejo (hamstring) were also absent from as they continued their recoveries.
