It was a call, or a no call, that could help determine who lifts the trophy in the Premier League. Manchester City may or may not have got handed a bit of fortune that keeps them in the title race for the final two matches.

Penalty or not?

The round 35 match was tight deep into the second half. After a first 45 minutes of scoreless play, it was Jeremy Doku who put City on top at the hour mark but the match was still very much in the balance. Ten minutes after the opener Brentford had a brilliant chance to equalize when Igor Thiago was played in behind the defense.

Thiago played it square in the area to Kevin Schade who was in on goal, and his feet got tangled with Matheus Nunes before he went to ground. He got up looking, and almost expecting a whistle from the referee. No whistle came and the ref got word in his ear that there was neither an offside on Brentford, nor was there a penalty on Nunes.

City went on to win 3-0 with goals from Erling Haaland in the 75th and a goal from Omar Marmoush in stoppage time sealed the three points for Manchester City. After their draw against Everton last week, they no longer control their own destiny but trail Arsenal by two points so the draw still keeps them in the race.
