Karim Benzema will play against Ajax despite injury scare
The French striker suffered neck pain following the weekend's action and missed out on taking part in Monday's training session.
Real Madrid's week began with scare as in-form striker Karim Benzema trained alone due to discomfort in his neck not joining his teammates. AS has learned, however, that the Frenchman will get on the plane on Tuesday to travel to Amsterdam, and will face Ajax on Wednesday in the Champions League Last 16 first leg.
Benzema to play against Ajax
The news of the injury had the alarm bells ringing at the club. Right now Benzema is seen as one of the most important players for Santiago Solari: currently top scorer of the team with 18 goals so far this season.
French is a non-negotiable starter for the Argentine coach: he is the second most used since the manager took over earlier in the campaign, playing 1,827 minutes (81% of the total available). His absence in training has been a precaution, to avoid aggravating the discomfort and to allow Benzema, assuming no further issues, may be a starter against the Dutch team this Wednesday.
