Ramos, Vázquez, Kroos and Vinicius react on Twitter

Several Real Madrid players have taken to social media to react to their elimination from the Copa del Rey, following a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Barcelona in the second leg of the semi-final.

Luis Suarez’s hat trick at the Santiago Bernabéu, his second against Los Blancos this season, gave Barça a 4-1 victory on aggregate after the first leg at Camp Nou ended 1-1, and puts the Blaugrana through to their sixth consecutive Copa del Rey final.

In what are extraordinary circumstances, the two sides will play out two Clásico fixtures at the Bernabéu in the space of four days, as they meet for a scheduled LaLiga fixture this Saturday.

And Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has said that the focus will now turn to the weekend, where a win for the Los Blancos would cut the gap between them and leaders Barcelona to six points.

“Disappointed with the result. Time to focus on another Clásico in LaLiga. Thanks for your unconditional support,” tweeted Ramos in a message to drum up unity ahead of Saturday’s game, which was accompanied by an aerial photo of the team bus entering the stadium surrounded by thousands of fans.

Brazilian starlet Vinicius, Lucas Vázquez and Toni Kroos took a similar line to that of their captain: expressing disappointment but also a sense of optimism and motivation for the task ahead.

"In life, no one can or could always win, so defeats are also part of it and sometimes it is with them that we learn the most valuable lessons: to work, evolve and move forward," tweeted the 18-year-old, who was once again one of Madrid’s standout performers on a disappointing night.

Vinicius’ attacking partner Lucas Vázquez, who scored Madrid’s loan goal in the first leg, said: “Broken and tired but with the desire to keep fighting for what’s coming. It’s not all said and done. Hala Madrid!”

During Wednesday’s game, Vázquez was the subject of a rough challenge by Barcelona’s Ivan Rakitic that left him levelled on the floor in quite a lot of pain. And his Twitter message was accompanied by a symbolic picture of Rakitic pulling at his shirt as he tries to find a way around the Croatian and Clement Lenglet.

Also posting a photo of the Madrid team bus entering the stadium last night, German midfielder Toni Kroos took a positive view of his side’s performance despite the 3-0 defeat.

“Still hurts but proud of the team for the way we played last night. Heads up. Big challenges ahead,” tweeted the German midfielder.
