Cristiano Ronaldo asked: "Do you miss Spain at all?"

Cristiano Ronaldo gave an exclusive interview to DAZN in which he spoke candidly about adapting to life in Turin, tonight's make-or-break return leg against Atlético de Madrid and his time away from the national team. He was also asked whether he missed life in Spain, where he spent the best part of a decade: "I’ve left a lot of good people, good friends, a great club that showed me a lot of affection"

What’s the biggest difference between Serie A and LaLiga?

In the Italian league, it’s much harder to score than in the Spanish league – because the Spanish game is more open, teams take more risks. That’s not the case so much here. Here in Italy, the priority is to defend well, then attack but that doesn’t happen in Spain. In LaLiga, football is much more open – always. Practically every team plays that way. In the English league too. I spent five years playing in England and for me, the Italian league is definitely the most difficult to score in.

Do you miss Spain?

I don’t really miss Spain or Portugal. Things are just the way are. Obviously, I’ve left a lot of good friends, a great club – a club that showed me a lot of affection – people, friends but I don’t miss the country so much as I’ve got the same things here. So it’s hasn’t been a difficult change for me. It’s all been intense, interesting, different but I’ve been accepted and I’m happy.

What are your thoughts on Atlético de Madrid?

As I’ve said before, it’s going to be a difficult game. During the past four years, Atlético have been candidates to win the Champions League. We know it’s going to be difficult but if Juve play well, we have a chance of going through.

Have you thought about returning to play for the national team?

I feel good, and like I said at the time, it has been a process of adaptation with my club which I needed to go through. I spoke to the coach and with the president and told them I felt I needed a break from the national team because I was moving to a new country, with a new culture. That’s a big change – not just for me but also for my family, my kids… I needed time to settle in a little, train and focus on getting off to a good start with my new club. We’d only just finished playing in the World Cup and within two months, we were back playing. It was all happening a bit too quickly which is why I had a word with the coach who understood how I felt and understood what I wanted to do. But this year is different, things have changed. I have acclimatized to the Italian league, the culture and how football is played here. That’s why I hope to be back playing with the national team because it’s my home and I want to help Portugal qualify for the next World Cup.
