Luka Modric was named as the best player in the world last year becoming the first person not named Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo to win the Ballon d'Or since 2007. His win did not convince everyone though. Former Real Madrid manager, Radomir Antic, is one of the people can't understand the victory as he explained to Goal.com.

“It seems absurd to me that none of the three greats of Spanish football have ever considered signing the best passer in the world, which is none other than Kevin De Bruyne. Since when is [Luka] Modric the best passer in the world?"

What does Modric do?

“I can't even say what it means to see him win the Ballon d'Or as the best player in the world, it doesn't make any sense. He doesn't give assists or score goals. You need players like De Bruyne, not like [Eden] Hazard – players that make others play.

Modric could be on the move in the summer. He has been linked with a move to Inter Milan and his contract expires in 2020. Real Madrid are planning a squad overhaul and the Croatian's performances have come in for some criticism this season after an exceptional World Cup that saw him drag his country to the final before being beaten by France.
