Wayne Rooney worries about DC United missed opportunites
The former Manchester United star worries about his current team's missed chances in order to extend the gap between them and its closest rivals.
DC United saw their home winless streak extend to three matches after Sunday's loss to New York City FC, however, Wayne Rooney's team remain in the top spot of the Eastern Conference.
The Black and Reds have to prove they can consistently defeat the other teams fighting for the top positions, and the DC United captain is aware of this particular issue his team is having, missing the chance to create distance between themselves, Atlanta United and New York Red Bulls.
"We had a good opportunity, not just to beat New York, but to create an even bigger gap between ourselves and Red Bulls and Atlanta, and teams who are down near the bottom," Rooney said.
The offensive midfielder believes they have a good chance coming up with the midweek game against Columbus Crew SC, as a victory would represent their best in terms of the current standings.
Team performance
Rooney thinks that DC United's recent home slide is more about the team mentality rather than their quality.
"Against NYC FC we were not good enough on second balls, in possession, and didn't create enough chances. We need to get back to being hard to beat and resilient. Hopefully, we'll do that in the upcoming game," concluded the captain.
