Bruce Arena a candidate to take Scotland coaching job
The former LA Galaxy and USMNT coach is on the shortlist of candidates to take charge of the Scottish national team's bid to reach Euro 2020.
United States World Cup coach Bruce Arena is being considered by the Scottish Football Association (SFA) to take charge of the national team's bid to reach Euro 2020, as he is experienced enough to steer Scotland to a good performance in qualifying for a tournament that will be celebrating 60 years of existence.
The Daily Record has reported that the 60-year-old former US coach is in the frame for the Scotland job alongside Francesco Guidolin, with both managers under consideration because of their experience. The New Yorker led the USMNT to the quarter-finals of the 2002 World Cup, while the Italian has a lot of experience in Serie A and the Premier League.
Arena has been inactive since he resigned from the US national team in 2017, but his career places him as one of the top candidates to become Scotland boss.
Coaching career
The American has had two spells at the helm of the USMNT, from 1998 to 2006 and 2016 to 2017. His finest moment in the role came in 2002, when the Stars and Stripes reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
At club level, Arena is the most decorated coach in the MLS with five Cups; he won three with LA Galaxy and two with D.C. United, who he took to the championship in the first two seasons of the American league.
