PSG ready to move for De Gea should Buffon retire

PSG are ready to make a move for Manchester United keeper David de Gea this summer should Gianluigi Buffon decide to retire.

41-year-old Buffon joined the Parisian club last summer from Juventus on a free transfer and is understood to be considering retiring this summer, which would leave PSG in need of a suitable replacement between the posts.

With his current contract at Old Trafford set to expire in 2020, De Gea has so far failed to reach an agreement on a new deal with Manchester United, who are reportedly reluctant to meet his large salary demands.

And according to British daily The Independent, PSG’s owners have already made the player aware that they are willing to pay him £350,000 a week ($457,000/€408,000), a significant increase on his current £200,000-a-week deal at United. The Daily Star, meanwhile, claims that the Ligue 1 club are willing to go as high as £450,000-a-week to secure De Gea’s signature if necessary.

United’s Spaniards angry over unfair treatment

De Gea is among a number of Spanish players at Old Trafford who are yet to agree terms with United’s board, while several English players – Luke Shaw, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Ashley Young – have managed to secure new deals over the past few months.

In late April, British media reports claimed that the Spanish players at the club are angry as they believe they are being treated differently than their English team mates regarding contract talks.

With no agreements with United in sight, De Gea’s Spain team mates Juan Mata and Ander Herrera look set to leave Old Trafford in the summer. Mata has been heavily linked with a move back to Spain with LaLiga champions Barcelona, while compatriot Ander Herrera has reportedly been talking to PSG, where both he and De Gea could now seemingly wind up next season.

De Gea “fallen out of love” with United

Meanwhile, ESPN FC pundit and former West Ham goalkeeper Shaka Hislop has claimed that De Gea has “fallen out of love” with The Red Devils and believes that PSG is the “most likely option” for the Spaniard this summer.

“I think De Gea has emotionally checked out of Old Trafford,” Hislop told ESPN, following several high-profile errors by the Spanish goalkeeper in recent games.

“He’s going somewhere, as far as I’m concerned, this summer. PSG for me is the most likely option. Option number two is Real Madrid but they have their issues, can they move [Thibaut] Courtois? I think they can. But as of right now, PSG just seems the most likely of his destinations.”
