Manchester City will look to regain their position at the top of the Premier League table as they host Leicester City at the Etihad Stadium on Monday night.

The pressure will be on Pep Guardiola’s men after Liverpool beat Newcastle on Saturday to put the Reds two points ahead but with an extra game played. As such, City’s fate remains in their own hands and a win against Leicester would restore their one-point lead over their title rivals going into the last day of the season on Sunday.

City go into the game having won their last 12 consecutive league matches and will be confident of continuing that winning streak against ninth-placed Leicester.

The Citizens will, however, be wary of the danger posed by The Foxes, who won the reverse fixture 2-1 back in December and managed to beat Arsenal 3-0 in their last showing. A win for coach Brendan Rogers, who identified the particular threat of striker Jamie Vardy in the pre-match press conference, would see his side move up to eighth and still in the running for Europa League qualification.

Rogers, a former Liverpool manager, can do his old club a major favour by at least earning a point at the Etihad, where the Foxes lost 5-1 in their last visit back in February. Their last away victory at the Etihad came in February 2016, where they beat City 3-1 and went on to win the Premier League title.

Manchester City vs Leicester City: Injuries and Suspensions

Kevin de Bruyne (hamstring) and Claudio Bravo (achilles) are definitely out, while Benjamin Mendy and Fernandinho are doubts for the home side.

Meanwhile, Brendan Rogers has only one injury concern in Ghanaian Daniel Amartey, who misses out with an ankle injury. Neither side has any players suspended for the clash.

Manchester City vs Leicester City: what the managers said

Pep Guardiola: “I cannot imagine Leicester players coming here for their holidays. They have the chance to finish seventh. They are going to try and get a win for sure.”

Brendan Rogers: "(Vardy) does strike fear into opponents, there's no getting away from that. When I was preparing a team to play against him you just knew you've got to be really careful against him. If you don't counter-press the game well and there's space to play that pass, he's going to hurt you – and he's a goal scorer.”
