Felix Brych to officiate Ajax-Tottenham, UEFA confirm
The German referee was the man in charge on the night Ajax stunned Real Madrid at the Bernabéu back in March with a 4-1 victory.
German referee Felix Brych will take charge of the second leg of the Champions League semi-final tie between Ajax and Tottenham in Amsterdam on Wednesday, UEFA have confirmed.
Brych has not presided over a Tottenham fixture this season, but has coincided with Ajax once in this year’s competition: officiating over Ten Hag’s side’s incredible 4-1 victory over Real Madrid at Bernabéu in the second leg of the round of 16 tie back in March.
An international referee since 2007 and first match official of the 2017 Champions League final in which Real Madrid beat Juventus, Brych will be accompanied by his compatriots Bastian Dankers as VAR referee and Marco Fritz as his assistant on the side-line.
Advantage Ajax in Amsterdam
Ajax start the game with the advantage after securing a 1-0 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last week, thanks to a lone goal by Donny Van de Beek.
This is Tottenham’s first semi-final appearance in Europe’s elite competition for 57 years, while Ajax have reached this stage of the competition for the first time since 1997.
