Ronaldo: Djalminha reveals bizarre bet with Real Madrid star
The former Brazil international has related how during his last game for Deportivo he had a flutter with O Fenômeno as to who could pull of the most nutmegs.
Djalminha and Ronaldo are two of the most exciting players to have graced LaLiga and their penchant for a bit of trickery came to the fore during a game between Deportivo and Real Madrid back in 2004.
It was Djalminha’s final match for the Galicians and to mark the occasion he challenged Ronaldo to a bet – the amount of money wagered has not been revealed by either player – to see who could chalk up the most nutmegs over the 90 minutes.
Speaking to Brazilian television station SporTV, Djalminha explained how Ronaldo won the wager by tormenting Depor central defender Jorge Andrade: “He was a very good defender for us but that day he pissed me off,” the Brazilian joked.
Ronaldo won the bet, Djalminha won the game
Djalminha had managed one nutmeg by the time Diego Tristán had beaten Iker Casillas to give Deportivo the lead and Joan Capdevila made it 2-0 to the hosts in the 68th minute, a result that game the Brazilian the perfect send-off in front of the Riazor fans.
However, he lost his bet with Ronaldo as the striker managed to nutmeg Andrade twice in the final stages of the game, which was also notable for Djalminha as he managed to get Zinedine Zidane sent off for a robust challenge in the 41st minute.
