Ronaldo: “The match-fixing needs to be fully investigated”
The Real Madrid legend and main share-holder in Valladolid visited AS and confirmed his willingness to help with the investigation.
Ronaldo Nazario visited this newspaper today, Wednesday, to discuss his first year with Valladolid, where he’s the main shareholder, which ended in dramatic, yet happy, circumstances with the team saving themselves from relegation in the penultimate round of matches. That delight though has been marred by the arrest of former Valladolid captain Borja Fernández, who hung up his boots just a week ago, on suspicion of match fixing. Ronaldo discusses match-fixing investigation
Ronaldo spoke first about the match-fixing investigation, saying that he very much hoped “Borja is not involved at all” before continuing: “But, in any case, I think it’s good that it’s investigated because we should all want for there to be no corruption. Listen, I’m from Brazil and over there we’ve got a tremendous amount of corruption. We support the investigation, we’ll do everything to collaborate and we’ll provide all the information we have”.
Various witnesses were interviewed today, Wednesday, in the police station in Huesca is relation to the match-fixing investigation, but according to Ronaldo, “nobody has called us yet, I’ve not been able to talk to Borja, or anyone. We can’t do anything more than wait for all this to be cleared up”.
Despite the investigation, Ronaldo said it wasn’t affecting the delight in the city about their team staying up: “after everything we’ve gone through this season, we’re still on cloud nine”.
