Cavani: PSG want €50m from Atlético

MSN France reports that PSG want 50 million euros from Atlético for Edinson Cavani, despite his age and the fact that his contract ends in 2020.

With Antoine Griezmann announcing his exit and David Costa possibly to follow the Frenchmen, Atlético Madrid have their eyes set on securing a prize-winning striker for next season, with their prime target being Uruguay’s Edinson Cavani.

According to a report by Spanish radio channel Cadena Sur, the PSG striker has already given a ‘yes’ to Los Rojiblancos, paving the way for the two clubs to begin talks. And MSN France reports this Friday that the Parisian club’s owners want 50 million euros for the Uruguayan international, who joined the club from Napoli for 65 million euros in 2013.

Cavani, who has scored 23 goals in 33 games this season, is 32 years old and finishes his contract in the year 2020, two factors that Atlético will have at front of mind as they try to bargain down PSG’s price-tag.

Atlético may be in a position to meet PSG’s demands

However, according to MSN, PSG will only let Cavani go at a high price as they look to generate the 70 million euros they would need to sign his replacement, Nicolas Pépé, from Lille.

Although if Atlético are looking to bring in 200 million euros from player sales this summer, as reported in France (which will include the funds from Griezmann’s expected transfer to Barcelona), perhaps they will be more willing to meet PSG’s demands for Cavani, who would go some way in covering the hole left by Griezmann.
