Tottenham vs Liverpool: Champions League final 2019 live stream

Liverpool's Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah (C) raises the European Champion Clubs' Cup as he celebrates with teammates winning the UEFA Champions League final football match between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur at the Wanda Metropolitano Stad

Jurgen Klopp banished his Champions League hoodoo as he helped Liverpool to the Champions League with a 2-0 win over Spurs at the Estadio Metropolitano on Saturday night.

Boths sides showed their fighting spirit to get as far as Madrid with Liverpool thumping Barcelona 4-0 at Anfield to overturn what appeared an insurmountable 3-0 lead held by Barcelona from the first leg.

Spurs' victory over Ajax in their second leg was no less dramatic with Lucas Moura scoring at the death to help Mauricio Pochettino's side to their first Champions League showdown in their history.

With Madrid taken over by fans of both teams and with expectation at an all-time high considering the energy the two managers implore their players to play at, it didn't take long for our first slice of action.

25 seconds to be precise. Sadio Mane kicked the ball off Moussa Sissoko's arm and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Whatever doubt lingered over the decision, Mohammed Salah wasn't concerning himself with such matters. He slammed the spot kick past Lloris to give the Reds the lead.

That goal neither helped settle Liverpool or Spurs, however, as what transpired after was a blend of nervous tension and error-strewn football.

Spurs had the lion's share of possession but they failed time and again to break down a Vigril van Dijk-led back line. Son was looking chirpy but Kane, jettisoned back into the team after suffering an ankle injury against City in the first leg of their semi-final, was off the pace and barely troubled Liverpool.

The game hung in the balance deep into the second half despite Spurs continuing to pile on the pressure with Alisson Becker, a summer signing caused by Liverpool's failure to win the trophy last season, making a string of saves from Son, specifically, and Kane, Eriksen and Moura more generally.

Divock Origi, the hero in the semi-final, killed the game with a left-footed strike into the bottom corner after 87 minutes as Robertson poked a loose ball into his path from a corner. Whatever slim hopes of a comeback that Spurs still harboured vanished into the humid Madrid air.

And that's how it would end with Klopp finally getting his hands on the trophy that has eluded him from the start.

Liverpool got their hands on the trophy for the sixth time in their history but the first time since 2005 and while this time, there was no comeback, the emtotions ran the same after the game and the fans sang You'll Never Walk Alone just as loud as they did 14 years ago in Istanbul.

Champions League final: as it happened

9+5

GAME OVER! For the sixth time, Liverpool are the champions of Europe.

90+5

One last chance for Spurs.

90+5

One minute left.

90+4

Kane with an effort now but it's straight into his chest.

90+3

Son again. Out for a corner.

90+2

Kane goes down as he tries to round Gomez. Ref says no. It was a fairly tame fall from Kane.

90+1

Five minutes of added time.

90

Gomez on for Mane. Klopp shutting this baby down.

90

Klopp bringing on Joe Gomez.

88

Origi! GOAL! Corner comes in and it falls to the striker and he strikes into the bottom corner.

86

Rose chests the ball out for a corner.

85

Corner into the middle. It catches Moura and Son heads it over. He was offside.

85

Eriksen with the effort. Alisson saves and taps it out for a corner. Nice effort.

84

Referee says it was outside. Eriksen eyes it up.

83

Rose hauled down. Milner the man who fouled him. Replay shows it was outside. Spurs want a penalty but don't think even VAR can save them here.

82

Henderson with a shot that goes a mile wide.

82

Milner with the corner. Headed away at the front post.

82

Dele Alli off for Llorente.

81

Son with his left foot this time. It's a daisy-cutter though.

80

Son with an effort that Alisson saves. Ball bobbles out to Rose, who sends it inside. Moura pokes it towards Alisson and he saves that one too.

78

Alli heads over. Cross in from the right from Trippier just slightly high.

76

A lot more urgency in the last couple of minutes. Son penalised for a handball as he contols it in the box. That brings that spell of pressure to a quick halt.

74

Son races forward and seems to move into 6th gear. Van Dijk manages to keep pace and pokes it out for a corner.

73

Spurs counter and Alli curls one into Alisson and he grabs it quite easily. Looked more dangerous than it turned out to be.

72

Sissoko looks spent. He gives it away and Salah is nearly put through. Sissoko asks for a change!

72

Sissoko and Trippier down injured.

71

Salah races forward. Ball inside and Mane nearly gets there. Cleared!

70

Trippier takes down a lovely pass out wide. He has two men inside but both of them held back and he misses them. Another couple of crosses late and Alisson gathers.

69

Rose cross and Robertson blocks...with his chest! Talk of a handball but referee doesn't flinch.

69

Mane runs down the throat of Spurs. He plays to Salah, who controls into Milner's path. Shot from the sub and that is just wide. So, so close as Lloris is left standing like a statue!

68

Sissoko down fixing his socks. No injury just a wradrobe malfunction.

68

Son clears the corner at the front post.

67

Alexander-Arnold with a cross and it's headed out by Alderweireld. Corner!

66

This is it for Spurs. Moura gives some hand signals that looks like they are going to a 4-3-3.

65

Moura coming on for Winks.

63

Vertonghen and Salah do battle. The Belgian wrestles him to the ground and wins the ball in the process.

62

Wijnaldum off for Milner. Klopp not messing around as he sees this one going away from Liverpool.

62

Rose a little heavy-handed with Henderson as he throws him to the ground.

61

Milner warming up.

61

This is way better from Spurs. Some clean and crisp passing. Eriksen shoots and it's blocked. Ball back inside to Alli and his touch takes it away from him and out for a goalkick.

60

Liverpool really struggling now in attack. Zero pressure on Lloris in the last few minutes.

58

Fimino can only last under an hour as Origi. The hero in the semi-final is on the field. Firmino will be disappointed with his performance.

58

Corner sent deep to the back post and Vertonghen headers over.

58

Eriksen takes. Alisson punches away to Rose, who shoots and he sees his effort blocked. Corner.

57

Better again from Spurs. Son wins a corner.

55

Rose goes down under a challenge from Alexander-Arnold. Caught on the thigh by the Liverpool player. Ref played advantage but truth be told, he wasn't sure what to do. Rose stays down.

54

Son with the shot now and it's blocked. Kane outruns the rebound and Matip clears. Game is way more open now. This could go either way.

54

Spurs playing with fire now. Pochettino has to be thinking of a change.

53

Salah races through on goal. Shot blocked and he wins it back off Sissoko. Ball clipped into the box and Mane is there but so too is Lloris. Saved!

52

Alexander-Arnold with the right-footed cross. It bends perfectly around the defense. Nobody in a red shirt able to reach it though.

51

Sissoko with the pass to Eriksen. Out to Winks and Robertson robs it off him. Liverpool clear.

51

Ball in over the top and Son controls it but he was offside.

49

Kane is dropping deeper and has been more involved in these opening five minutes. He wins a free off Wijnaldum as he clatters into his back.

49

Spurs have started brighter.

48

Kane sends a ball across the box. Son lurking and Alli not far away either. Ends up going between them and out for a throw.

46

Cross sent into the box and Alli gets his fringe on it. But Liverpool win it back and kick it up the field.

46

We are back underway for the second half. Everyone in the world, literally, hoping it will be better than the first.

No changes for either side at the break.

This is the point and the problem for Spurs. That penalty completely ruined their chances of being passive and letting Liverpool beat themselves.

Surely, Moura is going to come on here? Or maybe Pochettino is happy enough. They did dominate the ball and if it wasn't for that penalty, we might be looking at this game completely differently.

45+2

Half-time. Many people online and in real life happy that it's over.

45+1

Some serious chat needed from both managers at half-time.

45

Two minutes of added time.

45

Eriksen with a shot on his left and that is awful. Ends up in the stands after a nice move involving Sissoko, who drove forward, and Son, who found a nice crevice in Liverpool's defense.

43

Handled by Fabinho. Quick-thinking free looking for Spurs player over the top and Van Dijk heads away. Salah chases down a long ball and Vertonghen gets to it first. Spurs up the other end and Alisson grabs it.

42

Salah gets it from the corner and he hits it on the volley. Takes a nick and it's another corner.

41

henderson into Firmino. He doesn't peek a shooting chance so sends it out to the right. Cross in and it's out for a corner.

39

Vertonghen goes down injured now with a shoulder probelm. Play brought to a hault.

38

Matip plays the ball across to Robertson. He races forward and blazes over. Lloris with the save.

37

Spurs with 65% of the ball so far.

Just a reminder in case you're just joining us. Salah penalty gaves Liverpool the lead.

35

Henderson with a tasty little run down the right. Has Rose on his back but his cross is out of play before it reaches the penalty area.

34

Kane heads on to Son. He gets goalside of Robertson and kicks it off a defender. Corner. Nice move again from Spurs.

33

Sissoko looks for a pass in behind but Liverpool get it away. Spurs growing now and Liverpool fans whistle them. They want the ball!

32

Rose looks for Son with a little pass out to the left but it's behind him and the two of them have a little row amongst themselves. Communication breakdown.

31

Van Dijk clips one over Kane and Robertson can't go anything to prevent the throw. Spurs win it. Very sloppy affair so far.

31

Kane wins himself a free as Spurs try to counter. Fabinho pulled him down.

30

Free from maybe 40 yards out in the middle of the field. Alexander-Arnold ready to deliver and he does. But there are no Liverpool player's within an ass's roar of it. Goal kick.

29

Mane caught in the back from a long ball. Trippier the culprit.

28

Son gets the ball over the top. He takes a touch and a good few seconds after the play, he is whistled for offside. Right decision but very late.

26

Spurs play it around at the back and try to figure out a way around Liverpool's middling press. Liverpool sit and wait to pounce. Spurs keeping it well though in search of a chance.

24

Pochettino having a word with the referee now. Not sure what that's about but Robertson caught Trippier with a stray hand to the face. Poch probably looking for a little bit of charity after that really harsh call for the penalty.

24

Mané goes mano y mano against Trippier and it's a corner. That one is worth watching as the Senegal attacker has looked dangerous so far.

23

Liverpool with a nice spell now as the ball is crossed in from Robertson. Salah arrives at the back post but it's headed out for a throw.

22

Salah feels he was manhandled by Vertonghen. His left-footed effort was fairly poor and he looks to the ref for a little bit of help.

21

Salah with a lovely one-two with Firmino and he launches towards goal. Hits a defender and scutters out for a corner. Liverpool taking their time over this and it's probably wise. Very emotional game at the moment.

20

Cross sent in and Alisson grabs it.

20

Son breaks forward and he tries to round the defender before it clips his shin. Spurs win it back but they averted serious danger. Son was in an excellent position.

19

Back underway after a brief delay. Sissoko sees it out under pressure but Spurs back on the ball.

18

We have a streaker on the field. Two security guards in chase.

17

Robertson with the throw and it makes its way across the field. Alexander-Arnold finds himself in possession and has a crack. That's just wide of Lloris' post.

16

Mayhem in Madrid so far. Neither team settled properly so far.

15

Spurs dominating the ball so far.

14

Son takes it down and plays safely back to Vertonghen. Trippier gets it after a long, racking pass out to the right. Eriksen and then out to Son. Liverpool kick it out for a throw.

12

Matip throws himself into a challenge with Kane. He just missed Alli before that one and the referee has a word with him, telling him to cool it.

11

Corner sent in and Lloris gets a reaching fist on it. Not convincing by any stretch and Liverpool recover after Spurs kick it up the field.

11

Mané sent down the left and has Trippier minding him. The right-back gets back in time and clears for a corner. Mané has started well and looks like he is in the mood to be a constant thorn in their side tonight.

10

Son wins it and Eriksen sends it out to Sissoko. He winds up and launches it into the crowd. Wasted effort but Spurs at least threatening.

9

But they are back on the ball and Liverpool fans whistling them on the ball.

8

Ball launched over to the left-hand side of the field and Rose can't control it. Game is very intense at the moment. Spurs could do with taking a breather.

7

Lloris clear down the field and the ball rolls kindly to Alli. He puts Alexander-Arnold under pressure, who clears. Spurs have recovered well from that setback.

5

Corner. The first of the game and it goes to Spurs.

2

He absolutely buries it.

2

Salah to take.

1

PENALTY! 25 seconds gone and Spurs concede a penalty. Sissoko with the handball. Mané kicks it off him and that is harsh. Plenty of debate over this one in the comes hours and days...

1

Liverpool get us underway.

1

We are underway at the Metropolitano.

A minute's silence now for Jose Antonio Reyes.

Klopp taking a chance but it's his best available XI.

The teams emerge onto the field. Finally time for action after what felt like months of build-up.

I think this is the general consensus.

A serious amount of drums on the field.

We are underway.

You'll Never Walk Alone blares around the stadium and Spurs fans try to drown it out with boos and whistles. Not happening though.

What a feat!

Salah's Champions League final was cruelly ended early last season. Let's see if he can have a bigger impact this time around.

We will have a minute's silence after the horrible news emerged that Jose Antonio Reyes passed away in a car accident on Saturday.

Atmosphere just moved up a notch as Kane and co. arrive onto the field for their warm-up.

Spurs player emerge onto the field to warm up.

What's on offer tonight at the Metropolitano.

Sweltering.

I'm sure he got a handy ticket too.

Harry Kane starts for Spurs after a lengthy lay-off. So does Harry Winks.

Spurs XI: Lloris, Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose, Winks, Sissoko, Eriksen, Dele, Son, Kane.

Milner is left on the bench as Firmino comes in to start. Possibly harsh on Milner, who has been and is really good pretty much every time he plays, but this game will be about firepower and Firmino brings that.

Liverpool XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Henderson, Salah, Firmino, Mane.

Early reports say Kane is starting. Moura, the hero in the semi-final, is the man to lose out apparently.

Here is live footage from outside the stadium as fans flock to the Wanda Metropolitano.

Tottenham are playing in their first Champions League final. The stage is certainly set and Pochettino could be on the brink of immortality with the club he took over five years ago.

Hello and welcome to our live online coverage of the Champions League final. Kick-off coming your way at 21:00 CESt after an excellent build-up. The two sets of fans have taken over the middle of Madrid with plenty of festivities. Can the teams match that on the field tonight?

That side might have overachieved but this one, under Klopp, might just be starting an spell of dominance and nights like this.
