Alex Méndez chatted with Diario AS after the United States' quarter final defeat to Ecuador at the U20 World Cup. The Freiburg player analysed the tournament, the rivalry with Mexico and LA Galaxy's plan to develop young American players who have a Mexican background.

"Of course, it is difficult to get your head around the defeat, but I believe what this team did here in Poland was fantastic. We will move on and will continue working and will keep giving it all," Méndez told AS.

Méndez, who will still be eligible to play for the United States senior side, despite his own Mexican roots, went on to add: "I only care about my team, what we do and give to our families. When we played against them is excited, but this tournament is about us."

The 18-year-old explained that he is all in favour of LA Galaxy's plans to develop young players with Mexican backgrounds in their youth academy, saying that he he's happy with all of the players that emerge from the club.
