Didier Deschamps confirms "Mendy will play at Real Madrid"

The French left-back is due to have a medical on Wednesday after France play Andorra as Zinedine Zidane and Real Madrid ramp up their summer overhaul.

Didier Deschamps has confirmed Ferland Mendy will play at Real Madrid next season. The left-back, as reported by As, said yes to Zinedine Zidane at the end of May and has been waiting for the right time to undergo a medical and confirm the move, which will cost Real Madrid €50 million.

"Two years ago, he was in the second division and now he will play at Real Madrid," said Deschamps ahead of his side's Euro qualifier against Andorra. "He can play on either side and his development is stunning."

Mendy signings means Reguilón exit

Mendy will undergo a second medical on Wednesday as Real Madrid look to delve a little deeper into his physical state with some lingering concerns over his hip. The 24-year-old is confident, however, that he will pass the test.

Zidane is in almost daily contact with the player and he was one of the first requests to Florentino Pérez when he returned to his role as the manager of Real Madrid. Marcelo, who struggled through an inconsistent season, remains in the frame but Sergio Reguilón will become surplus to requirements once the French defender lands in Spain.
