Casillas denies retirement reports

The Porto keeper took to Twitter to deny Portuguese daily O Jogo's reports that he will announce his retirement shortly.

Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas has again taken to social media to respond to reports that he will retire after his well-documented heart attack scare at the start of May.

Following an operation in which the ex-Real Madrid keeper received a coronary stent, he did not play out the remainder of the season with Porto and has been widely expected to retire from the game, although the player himself is yet to confirm anything.

Amid the reports of his mooted retirement in mid-May, the 38-year-old posted a message to Twitter to quell the growing speculation, stating: "Hi everyone. Retiring... the day will come when I have to retire. Please allow me to announce that decision when the moment arrives. But for now, I need peace. Yesterday I had a revision with Dr.Filipe Macedo. All good. That's the big news I want to share with all of you!

Casillas will have medical review results on Thursday

Almost a month later, Portuguese sports daily O Jogo has claimed that Casillas will announce his retirement shortly, carrying the story on its front page this Thursday.

But again, the Porto keeper took to Twitter to reiterate the same message asking for patience, while retweeting his earlier post from May 17 post.

“The same as this tweet from a month ago, except the part of about the medical review with the Doctor. I will have it as soon as tomorrow. Hugs to all,” wrote the player.

With Casillas set to receive the results of the doctor’s medical check tomorrow, the goalkeeper will likely be back on Twitter shortly with an update.

Porto searching for Casillas replacement

Meanwhile, as reported by AS, Porto are already looking for the Spaniard’s replacement, who has been offered a coaching role at the Estádio do Dragão by Porto president, Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa.

Among the list of candidates is Gianluigi Buffon, whose agent has already said that the Juventus legend would be in favour of a move to Porto, after he announced his exit from PSG last month.
