AC Milan considering pulling out of 2019-20 Europa League
The Serie A club are studying the idea to buy more time to meet FFP requirements with Torino in line to benefit from the extra place in Europe's second-string competition.
AC Milan are considering giving their place in next season’s Europa League to avoid Financial Fair Play sanctions.
According to Sky Italia, the Rossoneri are seeking an agreement with UEFA to sit next season’s competition out in order to try and buy more time to meet the obligations set out by the European governing body last year when Milan were ordered to break even before June 30, 2021.
In the case that Milan do not meet that requirement, UEFA will impose a ban on participating European competition in 2022-23 and 2023-24.
Milan looking to balance the books, Torino waiting in the wings
Milan had €12million of their revenues from the 2018-19 Europa League withheld and will be restricted to registering 21 players in squads for UEFA competitions over the next two seasons as part of a deal brokered with UEFA to avoid a ban in the first place.
Now, Milan have offered to give up their place in the Europa League in 2019-20 as a sign of good faith as they seek to balance the books in time to avoid a potential Champions League ban further down the line.
Torino, who finished seventh in Serie A last season, stand to benefit from the arrangement it reaches fruition, unless UEFA decide to remove the extra place from Italy for the season and award it to another country instead.
