Megan Rapinoe's star continues to rise at the Women's World Cup in France both on and off the field. On Friday, she scored a double to help the US over the tournament's hosts and help her side into the semi-final against England on Tuesday.

After making headlines and plenty of new fans for saying she "wasn't going to the fucking White House" if Trump invited her in the event that the US women won the tournament, she went on to say no team has ever won anything without gay people on the team.

Rapinoe says there are gay people on every team

"You can’t win a championship without gays on your team - it’s never been done before, ever. That’s science, right there!" she said after the France victory.

“I’m motivated by people who like me, who are fighting for the same things," she said. "I take more energy from that than from trying to prove anyone wrong. That’s draining on yourself. But for me, to be gay and fabulous, during Pride month at the World Cup, is nice.”

Rapinoe was the first woman and white athlete to join Colin Kaepernick's protest in kneeling for the national anthem in 2016 as a form of protest against police brutality in the United States against black people and general inequality.
