Asensio: Spanish football shows sympathy and support: "You'll bounce back"

Numerous clubs and players were quick to send get well soon messages and support for the Real Madrid player, who has torn the ACL and meniscus in his left knee.

Marco Asensio's season isn probably over following the knee injury he suffered while challenging for the ball with Arsenal's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in yesterday's International Champions Cup game. Following tests this morning, it was confirmed that Asensio has torn the anterior cruciate ligament and the external meniscus in his left knee and faces surgery and a lengthy spell on the sidelines - up to nine months. Not long after the news broke, get well soon messages started pouring in from members of the Spanish football community.

One of the first to write a personal message of support for Asension was Iker Casillas, who is sure Marco will make a full recovery and be back playing soon. "Sometimes life throws up unexpected surprises. This is a challenge which you will overcome. We still have many afternoons of football ahead of us to enjoy watching you play. Be strong!".

The midfielder's old club RCD Mallorca also took to social message with a message: "Be strong and keep your spirits up Marco. We're sure you'll come back even stronger!".

Another Spanish club, Levante UD wrote: "Stay strong Marco Asensio. See you back on the pitch soon".

The Spanish national team's account  echoed those sentiments, with their message: "We're sure we will be seeing you smile again much sooner than you think".

RCD Espanyol, where Asensio spent the 2015-16 on loan, also hopes the player will make a speedy recovery: "All of us here at RCD Espanyol, would like to send strength to our former player Marco Asensio after your serious injury. Get well soon from everyone in the Perica family Marco!"
