Mariano in limbo: no place at Madrid and still no way out

Sources close to the player have said that while he has many suitors, there are currently no clubs in advanced talks with either his camp or Real Madrid.

Mariano Díaz still doesn’t know where he will be playing football next season but what is certain is that it will not be at Real Madrid.

The Spanish-Dominican striker is eager to stay at the club and did everything he could to try to convince Zinedine Zidane, who, in turn, has done everything possible to make him understand that he is not in his plans for next season.

Before the French coach had confirmed his decision, Mariano had already come to accept the idea of moving on. But according to what AS has learned, no club has come in with an offer close to Real Madrid’s 20-million-euro valuation, nor with a proposal to match his current salary of more than 4 million euros per year.

Mariano’s suitors: Roma, Betis, Valencia

Reports in Italy on Monday had linked the player with AC Milan. Although, the club’s main objective is Atlético Madrid’s Ángel Correa and they have not made contact with Real Madrid or Mariano’s camp.

Milan’s Serie A rivals Roma, however, did make contact and received the nod from the Madrid centre-forward. But there hasn’t been any movement in weeks: despite the recent renewal of Edin Dzeko, the Giallorossi outfit are still interested in the Madrid forward, but first they must part with Patrik Schick.

Mariano has no lack of suitors. In Spain he has also attracted the interest of Espanyol, Betis and Valencia. But according to sources close to the player, there are currently no clubs in advanced talks with either his representatives or with Real Madrid; and he will have to wait until the final days of the transfer window to find a solution to the deadlock.
