Brazilian defender Mónica Hickmann joins Madrid CFF
Mónica Hickmann will play for Madrid CFF next season. The Brazilian becomes the eighth signing for the capital side's women's team.
Madrid CFF continue dealing in the transfer market to reinforce their squad ahead of their debut in the Liga Iberdrola next year. After confirming the signing of France international Marie Laure Delie, the club is expected to announce their next recruit - Brazilian defender Mónica Hickmann, who starred in this summer's Women's World Cup in France. The central defender, who spent a season at Atlético Femenino in 2017-18, left Corinthians a few weeks ago and decided to return to the Spanish capital despite having several offers - including ones from Atlético and Tacon.
Mónica Hickmann, 32, is a highly experienced centre-back who has played in several different countries including the United States, Australia, Austria and Spain as well as her home country. She has experience of playing in the Champions League (12 games) and has been capped 46 times with Brazil, with whom she has played in the past two editions of the Women's World Cup. Her spell with Atleti lasted just eight months, she played just 10 games (825 minutes), and scored one goal before returning to the United States. Much of her early career was spent in her homeland with Flamengo, Corinthians, Ferroviaria and Foz-Athletico. She enjoyed three separate spells in the United States - each time with Orlando Pride, while in Austria she collected league and Cup winners' medals.
Hickmann's arrival will add extra quality to Madrid CFF who have brought in Delie, Sara Tui, Clau Blanco, Maca Portales and Bruna Tavares. And there's still time for more reinforcements...
