Barcelona: Víctor Valdés reveals the 5 virtues every Barça player needs

Víctor Valdés has only been at the helm of Barcelona's Under-19s for a few weeks but he has already set out a short list of what he expects from his players. Speaking to the media today, the coach outlined the five virtues that every player must have if they are to make it with Barça.

“I hope my players enjoy the time they are in this age group – under-19s. On the first day, in my first chat with them in the dressing room, I told them that they will have a coach who will always try to defend the five virtues which, in my point of view, every footballer who wants to be a Barcelona player needs. They know that these five factors are very important," Valdés began.

"First of all, enjoyment – if you haven’t come here to enjoy what you do, it would be better to not come at all. Because this is Barcelona and we play football to enjoy ourselves.

After that, attitude. If you don’t have attitude, you don’t respect your team mates, or you don’t respect anyone – and that includes our opponents, and if you don’t respect the game, that means you don’t respect Barça.

Third – identity. They need to know who they are playing for and the club badge they are defending. They need to behave at the level expected by the club and the competition they are playing in.

Fourth is versatility. With the talent they have, they must be able to adapt to other positions during the game. It’s partly my own idea of looking for a dynamic edge to our game – so they must be looking out for support from their team mates when going forward and doing the same when they help the team to defend.

The fifth is all to do with me. Like any other coach, I hope to celebrate as many goals as possible – that’s what I ask of the boys. Try to score goals and be alert to everything else going on in the game".
