Magical Odegaard assist will have Madrid fans drooling for his return
Real Madrid loanee Martin Odegaard pulled off the assist of the season to date in Real Sociedad's 3-0 win over Alavés.
It was a memorable mid-week for Real Madrid’s youngsters.
In the Bernabéu on Wednesday, 19-year-old Vinicius and his Brazilian compatriot Rodrygo (18) both scored stunning goals to give Zidane's side a 2-0 win over Osasuna, marking the occassion as the first time that two players under 20 scored in the same game for Los Blancos since 1996.
Twenty-four hours later at the Anoeta Stadium, Madrid loanee, 20-year-old Martin Odegaard, conjured up a piece of magic that has sent Twitter into a frenzy, spectacularly creating the opening goal for Real Sociedad in the home side’s 3-0 win over Alavés with a nut-meg and a 20-yard cutting pass (you can check out the majestic move here).
Odegaard provides assist of the season
In the 19th minute the Norwegian received the ball just outside opposition’s third and audaciously nut-megged midfielder Tomás Pina, before delivering a pin-perfect, 20-yard pass to teammate Mikel Oyarzabal that cut through as many as three Alavés defenders. With the hard work done by Odegaard, Oyarzabal easily slotted it past the keeper to give Sociedad the lead.
It was unquestionably the assist of the season to date (and could still very well be so by the season’s close) and led well-known Spanish football journalist, Sid Lowe, to hail Odegaard as LaLiga’s hitherto best player in 2019/20.
Odegaard joined Sociedad on loan from Madrid this summer, signing a two-year deal after an impressive stint with Vitesse last season. The 20-year-old winger had scored two goals in five games before Thursday’s game. And after that breath-taking assist against Alavés, many Madrid fans will no doubt be wondering why on earth the club left him leave again this summer.
